He did on Suppers Ready"

He can't he just twiddled a simple melody line in one section.

First album post Gabriel was TOTT followed by W&W.

Re: Genesis
Interesting that Gabriel never really carried on with his weird costumes with his solo career, although some of the music was very dark?

By the way I agree, Tony Banks doesn't come across well in that doc, sort of a humourless cove, but I will defend him because his music is brilliant and that is really all that matters isn't it?

Re: Genesis
banks is a genius composer. sad reallt that they ended up recording shit like 'i cant dance' and 'jesus he knows me'

Far Cough 5:48 Mon Oct 6
Re: Genesis
jools, I noticed that but I still say Banks is a terrific keyboard player

Re: Genesis
Banks came accross as being a bit of a turd and he and Gabriel obviously dont get along, you could tell by the body language and lack of eye contact.

Re: Genesis
Trick Of The Tail's my favourite album

Re: Genesis
Yeah, it was Trespass, someone told me to listen to Trick of the Tail and I was hooked, then I retrospectivally went back to all their old albums

I think Wind and Wuthering was the first album post Gabriel

Eleventh Earl of Mar was to my mind a brilliant debut singing track for Collins

He left very early on, after Trespass I think? Suffered with stage fright.

Is there a link to the documentary anywhere?

Re: Genesis
I'm mentoring a young band and I see a bunch if issues that are not dissimilar to much of the tensions in Genesis. However, the thing I took away from the documentary was it was the mass of tangled talent and personalities fighting and blending that gave Genesis it's unique strengths and durability. I kept thinking the keyboard player was a proper cunt but eventually realised how essential he was to the final product both on record and live. He's fucking intense but that intensity obviously was the DNA that held what was Genesis together. They also did develop over time in a way that most bands rarely manage.
I found it a great watch.

Re: Genesis
If it was a documentary about Genesis, why include anyone's solo work?

Did they show Collins and Rutherford's solo work?

If so, then yes, Hacket't's solo work should have been included

Quite so! This is what Hackett had to say about it yesterday.

"My thanks for all the messages of support which I really appreciate regarding the problem with the BBC Genesis documentary.

It's certainly a biased account of Genesis history and totally ignores my solo work. It does not deliver the theme of "Together and Apart". In interview I spoke at length as much about my solo career as my time in Genesis, but was not given any editorial involvement.

Whilst the documentary's sister project, the R-KIVE box set represents us all equally, the documentary does the opposite. I know the documentary will soon be on sale via various outlets, but I won't be selling this via my own website.

On a positive note, I've just finished my new album due out early next year, and I look forward to seeing everyone again on the upcoming leg of the Genesis Extended tour.

Warmest wishes,

Steve"
